Princeton Seminary Names Columbia Professor Emerita Kathleen O’Connor Distinguished Alumna

Princeton Theological Seminary invited Dr. Kathleen M. O’Connor, William Marcellus McPheeters Professor Emerita of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary to speak at their Alumni Reunion on May 16. In addition to giving The Edwin H. Rian Lecture on the topic “Beginnings to Begin Again,” she received that seminary’s 2016 Distinguished Alumna Award.

In a statement, Princeton Seminary’s President Craig Barnes said, “Kathleen O’Connor has shaped the imagination of countless students and made a significant impact in her field. Prof. Brennan Breed Wins 2016 Manfred Lautenschlaeger Award for Theological Promise

Columbia Theological Seminary’s Assistant Professor of Old Testament Brennan W. Breed is being honored for his work, Nomadic Text: A Theory of Biblical Reception History (Indiana: Indiana University Press, 2014). He is among ten winners to receive the prestigious 2016 Manfred Lautenschlaeger Award for Theological Promise, an international award given annually by Forschungsinstitut Internationale und Interdisziplinäre Theologie to outstanding first books in theology. Calvin Theological Seminary Names Columbia President Leanne Van Dyk Distinguished Alumna

The Board of Trustees and the faculty of Calvin Theological Seminary recently invited Columbia Theological Seminary President Leanne Van Dyk to attend their Commencement this year to receive that seminary’s Distinguished Alumni Award. Just less than a year ago, Dr. Van Dyk was named the tenth president of Columbia Theological Seminary.

“You have been chosen to receive this award because your ministry stands out as an exhibit of grace and truth, and because it therefore brings glory to God and to your alma mater,” said Jul Medenblik, President of Calvin Seminary in a letter congratulating her. The Commencement Ceremony will take place on May 21, 2016 in the Calvin College Covenant Fine Arts Center. Columbia Theological Seminary held its annual commencement exercises today at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, GA. This year, 63 degrees were awarded in six graduate degree programs.

2014 Alumni Awards Announced

The Annual Alumni/ae Luncheon was held in the Richards Center Refectory as part of the 2014 Colloquium this spring. Each year a couple of alumni/ae are recognized by their peers with the Distinguished Service Award and the Pioneer in Ministry Award.

In 2006 the Alumni/ae Association Council approved the Recognition Program in order to recognize outstanding service to the church rendered by Columbia Theological Seminary graduates. Recognition is given to alumni/ae who exemplify the ideals expressed in Columbia Seminary’s Statement of Mission found in the Seminary catalog as well as recognize passion, commitment, and dedication since graduation.
